Simply put, this series of watercolors, which began during an artist residency in Brittany in 2007, is just skies–no horizon, no context, every-day skies and not photogenic sunsets.  All sky paintings are created in the studio after finding a sky of interest during the previous 24 hours. I started painting skies in order to add them to my work involving assembling architectural and decorative arts details into new entities. (Mostly)

Well, now (July 2018) I’ve added “(Mostly)” to the title of this portfolio mainly because I didn’t want to start a new portfolio and because these six watercolors–thanks to a week at a cottage two hours north of Toronto–are “Just Skies” with the exception of  the trees that line the distant shore across the lake.
