My watercolors of skies began just by painting skies from memory without borders. This practice began during an artist residency in Brittany, France, in 2005. Then while in Tuscany, Italy, in 2012, the inlaid pavements of churches there inspired me to created sky paintings framed in Tuscan patterns. In 2013 and 2014 travel to New England inspired frames composed of 18th-century tombstones imagery–Puritan Skies–while the architectural details in the neighborhood of Mt. Vernon in downtown Baltimore became sky borders too–Baltimore Framed. After travels in northeast Italy in May 2017, I’ve added ten paintings that I call Italian Doorways, Infinite Vistas.
